Ferrari has made no secret about the most important part of the 812 Superfast being the engine. Unlike most supercars that put the engine behind the driver, Ferrari have opted to keep it up front, adding a dose of stability and everyday usability to the car. Drivers will need it, as the 6.5L V12 engine powering the car produces an astonishing 788 horsepower at a screaming 8500 RPM. Power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed paddle shifted dual-clutch automatic. Without the benefit of all-wheel drive, one might be forgiven for thinking the 812 would have trouble getting off the line with all that power, but this is not the case. The Superfast flies to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and can hit 100 mph in under 6 seconds. Flat out, the Superfast can achieve a claimed 211 mph. The reason Ferrari opted not to go with all-wheel drive is due to the handling characteristics introduced by such a system. With just the rear wheels driven, the 812 isn't just capable in the corners, but sublimely controllable, with the car rotating on demand with just a touch of the throttle. This is not a car for beginners, but nor is it a car solely for the advanced driver. The car doesn't have any sort of snappiness and feels totally controllable as long as the driver has some sort of idea of what they're doing. It's a testament to the basic layout of the car, with the engine up front and drive sent to the rear wheels, an age-old layout that the Ferrari 812 simply does better than just about any car in the history of the automobile. While the ride in the 812 Superfast is firm, it's far from punishing, and unlike most of its mid-engine rivals, there's none of the nervousness that can often be associated with ultra-high horsepower supercars. Visibility is also good relative to most of its peers, thanks again to not having an engine blocking taking up much of the rear of the car. The Ferarri 812 Superfast comes in just one trim level that can be configured with a huge number of different options, including a convertible. Eight different styles of 20-inch wheels are offered, all of them forged, while brake calipers can be had in one of five different styles. Inside, Ferrari offers no fewer than eight different styles of seats, meaning that the customer should be able to choose something that perfectly fits their body style as well as their sense of aesthetics. Interior leather is also offered in a choice of seven different colors, with optional carbon fiber highlights throughout the cabin should the customer want that.
